Zurich Lions lose for first time in 13 matches

Rapperswil's players wanted to win more than Zurich's Keystone

Zurich lost their first game in a long time on Saturday, just one day after cruising past Ambri. The Lions went down 3-2 to Rapperswil-Jona, a team that had displayed no fight at home against Davos on Friday.

Rapperswil lead from the start, with Mctavish scoring in the 12th minute. Zurich replied seven minutes later through Crameri, but the St Gallen team lit up the scoreboard a few seconds later.

The second period was scoreless. In the third, the Lions drew even Rapperswil in the 50th, but didn't get to celebrate as Capaul put the winning goal away just moments later.

In other matches, Kloten easily defeated Zug 4-0 at the Schlüfweg, scoring in every period. Berne overcame Chur 3-0 and Davos didn't give Langnau a chance, winning 5-0.

In the Romand derby, Fribourg-Gottéron chalked up a victory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, pulling away in the last period to win the game 3-1.

Finally, in the evening's other derby, Lugano ran out 3-0 victors against Ambri-Piotta, scoring all their goals in the last period.

Zurich still lead the league with 24 points, but with two extra games, over Davos who now hold second place alone on 21 points. Ambri remains stalled on 19.

The fight to be above the playoff bar remains tight, with three teams (Kloten, Berne and Langnau) just above with 15 points, and two (Fribourg and Rapperswil) just beneath on 14.
