Swiss tennis players Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka face each other in the next round of the French Open after two very different matches on Friday.

Federer, who is seeded third, went through the third round with a comfortable win over 29th-seeded Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia.

He won the 90 minute match 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. He had 37 winners and needed to save only one break point.

Wawrinka, seeded 14th, kept his fans on the edge of their seats in a five set match against 17th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France, which lasted four hours and three minutes.

 
Having lost the first two sets, he won the third on a tie-break, before taking the last two more easily. The final score was 4-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, 6-3.
 

The two Swiss, who play together as a doubles team, have so far played each other nine times, including in the last 16 at last year’s French Open. Wawrinka has won only one of those encounters, in Monte Carlo two years ago.

Federer, who has won 16 Grand Slam titles during his career, has not dropped a set at Roland Garros this year.
 
However, he has won the French Open only once, in 2009. Last year he was knocked out in the quarterfinals.
