Unemployment falls again

The number of people unemployed has fallen again to its lowest level since the mid-1990s. Unemployment in June dropped by nearly 4,000 over the previous month.

June's figure shows a jobless rate of just 1.8 per cent of the working population, down from 1.9 per cent in May. The number of people without a job is 65,962 which is 3,826 fewer than the previous month.

The unemployment rate now stands at its lowest level since the middle of the 1990s.

119,828 people are now registered as job-seekers.

Only five cantons now have an unemployment rate above two per cent. They are Geneva, Vaud, Ticino, Neuchatel and Basel-City.

Geneva remains by some distance the canton with the highest unemployment rate at 4.3 per cent.
