They sealed their place among the top eight after drawing 1-1 against Sweden in Malmö on Monday. Striker Nessim Ben Kalifa levelled for the Swiss in the second half.

The Swiss had beaten the Swedes 4-1 in the first leg earlier this month.

Switzerland join Iceland and hosts Denmark, while ten other teams will play for the remaining five berths on Tuesday.

It is the third time after 2002 and 2004 that Switzerland have qualified for the finals and appears to confirm the progress made by young Swiss national squads in the recent past.

Last year, Switzerland’s Under-17 team won the World Cup final against Nigeria.
