Over the past few nights, temperatures in many regions of Switzerland have not fallen below 20 degrees Celsius. And it's getting hotter.

In the daytime, the mercury rose to over 30 degrees in parts of the country, and it is expected to continue for the rest of the week and the coming weekend. People across the nation took to Switzerland’s plentiful lakes and rivers to cool down.

The tropical conditions experienced this week, with the temperature failing to drop below 20 degrees at night, are also expected on Friday and Saturday.

According to Swiss weather newsExternal link, this was already the case in Lucerne, Vevey, Locarno-Monti, and Basel. It's the first time this year that a tropical night spread over various regions has been registered, said Nicola Möckli of Meteo News on Wednesday. In southern Ticino, temperatures stayed at the 20-degree mark all night.
