He'll be hoping to retain his lead as the tour enters its ninth stage, a 150 kilometre route from Sankt Moritz to Arosa. If he does, he is almost certain to win the whole Tour de Suisse.

Camenzind managed to wrest the jersey from Germany's Jan Ullrich during the eighth stage on Tuesday. The 166 kilometre stage led from Locarno to La Punt, in eastern Switzerland.

Ullrich lost two whole minutes off his overall standings during the Albula-Pass segment of the race, giving the edge to Camenzind, who was previously third overall.

The day's stage itself was won by Italy's Stefano Garzelli. He completed the race in just over four hours, 40 minutes.
