The anti-corruption organisation Transparency International awarded Switzerland 8.8 points, a slightly better score than the 8.7 it received last year.

Transparency International creates an annual corruption perceptions index  based on a scale of zero (very corrupt) to ten (practically no corruption).

Published on Thursday, the 2011 index found New Zealand to be the least corrupt (9.5 points) followed by Denmark, Finland and Sweden.

With equal scores, Switzerland and Australia tied for eighth place.

According to Transparency International, there is a connection between long-standing corruption and the financial crisis in some European countries.
