Swisscom cuts interconnection rates

Swisscom is to cut its interconnection rates in 2001 by up to six per cent. These are the rates paid by other operators to transit calls over the Swisscom network.

The move follows the introduction of the new Long-Run Incremental Cost (LRIC) calculation method, which came into force this year.

Swisscom said the reduction brings its rates into line with the European average and represented a "fair, transparent and consistent implementation of the regulatory requirements".

Swisscom's latest move opens the way for more price competitiveness between companies active in the Swiss telecommunications market.
