Celebrating Swiss national day under a Brazilian sun.

Swiss communities around the world take out their flags, traditional costumes and painted lanterns to celebrate Swiss National Day (August 1) each year. The same goes for Swiss expats living in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. Four Swiss immigrant families started it all when they founded the Colonia Helvetia 122 years ago in the town of Indaiatuba. It’s a colourful affair, as swissinfo’s Claudinê Gonçalves discovered during a visit in 2009.
