On average more than half a million people tuned in to each of the 17 live Grand Prix this season, as Sauber raced to an unprecedented fourth place finish in the constructors' championship.

More than three quarters of those watching in the German speaking parts of Switzerland chose Swiss television over its German and Austrian rivals with the national station gaining around 70,000 more viewers per race than last season.

The highest recorded viewing figures were for the Canadian Grand Prix in June which attracted 638,000 people to Switzerland's second German-speaking channel.

The accompanying magazine programme, looking behind the scenes of Formula One, accounted on average for almost 30 per cent of the Swiss television audience, with around 15,000 more people watching than last year.
