Switzerland's goals came courtesy of André Rötheli, Michel Zeiter and two from Marcel Jenni.

Unlike their last two defeats against Canada, the Swiss were not forced to come back from behind after losing the first period.

Instead, Jenni opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a superb slalom through the German defence.

Germany may have equalised before the end of the first period but the Swiss gradually dominated the match with a 2-1 tally in the second period and scoring the only goal in the third.

The Swiss play Slovakia on Sunday who lost 4-5 to Canada after squandering a 3-0 lead.
