Swiss are tops in hospital beds and cinema seats
A comparative study of European cities shows that the Swiss capital, Bern, has the highest number of hospital beds per resident.
In a European Union project called Urban Audit, which measures quality of life, Bern is reported to have 17 hospital beds per 1,000 residents.
At the other end of the scale the Swedish capital, Stockholm, has just one bed per 1,000 residents.
When it comes to cinema seats, the western city of Geneva also performs well. It boasts 51.2 seats per 1,000 residents.
The darker sides of city life are also highlighted. For example, domestic burglaries happen most frequently in the Belgian capital, Brussels, followed by Bern and London.
When it comes to car thefts, the highest rates of incidence are in neighbouring Italy: Caserta (15.3 per 1,000 residents), Catania (14.7), Naples (11.7), Turin (11.3) Rome (11.2) and Milan (11).
