Swiss are optimistic about 2008
More than one third of Swiss believe that next year will be better than 2007, according to a survey.
A poll published in a Sunday newspaper found that 37 per cent of those questioned were optimistic about the future. In addition, 33 per cent thought that the economy would pick up as well.
The Isopublic survey of more than 1,000 people across the country, highlighted by the SonntagsBlick, was part of a wider worldwide study on how people felt about 2008.
It placed the Swiss third in terms of optimism for the coming year in Europe. As for the economy, Switzerland was far ahead of its neighbours, with only 14 per cent feeling positive in Germany and 17 per cent in France.
However, almost 60 per cent of Swiss polled were convinced that there would be more international conflicts in 2008.
This was ahead of the United States (51 per cent) and the western Europe average (44 per cent). It even outstripped some conflict-affected regions: Kosovo posted 18 per cent and Serbia, 49 per cent, according to SonntagsBlick.
