Visitors to Switzerland will be spoiled for choice if they travel to the country in April.

Towns on the shore of Lake Geneva are celebrating spring with a series of annual flower festivals, while at the other end of the country the ski resort of Samnaun is preparing to host a series of open-air rock concerts.

Until mid-May, Morges' gardens will explode in a riot of colour. The blooms of about 100,000 tulips, narcissi and hyacinths can be enjoyed at the "Parc de l'Indépendence".

It will be the turn of the nearby village of Vullierens from mid-May to mid-June, when the iris takes pride of place. The show will take place at the 18th century Château de Vullierens.

The rock star, Suzi Quatro, will heat up the alpine stage on April 21 in the "Silvretta Arena" in the twin resorts of Samnaun and Austria's Ischgl. She will be followed on April 30 by the Spanish heart-throb, Enrique Iglesias.

The concerts are free to all guests at the resorts and traditionally end the winter season in the cross-border ski region on a high note.

Samnaun, situated in a side-valley in eastern Switzerland, lies at 1,800 metres above sea level. Its thermal bath is said to be the highest in Switzerland, and the resort also has the distinction of being a duty-free zone.
