The 28-year-old from Neuchâtel finished third in the contest in Sunday River, Maine in the United States, in which four riders at a time tackle varying terrain.

Canadian Maelle Ricker won, followed in second place by Helen Olafsen of Norway.

Fellow Swiss Olivia Nobs, Sandra Frei and Tanja Frieden managed to reach 10th, 11th and 14th places respectively. In the men's event, Fabio Caduff had the highest Swiss score, placing 22nd.

Francon came away with a bronze in the recent World Championships in South Korea, but has only achieved one World Cup career victory in Austria in 2006.
