Despite missing 11 players through injury or suspension, the Geneva club turned on the style to guarantee a fourth place finish in the Swiss championship.

After conceding a goal in the 9th minute, scored by Lugano's Joël Magnin, Servette produced a stunning spell of football.

Johann Lonfat equalised in the 30th minute with a superb header, and the visitors took the lead five minutes later through a fine strike from the Russian, Mitchkov.

Servette's Brazilian star, Marcelo, wrapped up the points and the prospect of European football in the closing stages of the match.

Elsewhere, Young Boys, who won promotion to the top flight last season, saw their slim hopes of qualifying for Europe dashed during a punishing 4-1 defeat at home to Grasshoppers.

Sion, who are still searching for their first victory in the final round of matches, lost 2-1 away to St Gallen. Champions Basel succumbed to only their second defeat, going down 3-1 away to FC Zurich.
