Serbia agrees to new migration and visa rules
Switzerland and Serbia will strengthen cooperation in migration policy and law enforcement, the two countries said on Tuesday.
Swiss Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf and Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic signed a readmission agreement and another that will facilitate the process of issuing visas.
They also agreed to a statement of intent to partner on migration and police cooperation.
In a statement, the Swiss justice ministry said the new readmission agreement requires both sides to readmit their own nationals without any formal requirements. Stateless persons that had travelled through Serbia to Switzerland can also be returned to Serbia.
This was not the case with the previous agreement.
The two sides will pursue complementary migration policies and aim to boost the exchange of information among law enforcement authorities.
Widmer-Schlumpf also met her Serbian counterpart, Snezana Malovic, to discuss judicial reform and Serbia's participation in international judicial institutions.
