German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder's planned visit to Switzerland was cancelled Friday, only a few hours before he was due to arrive for talks that would have been dominated by the issue of European integration.
A Swiss government spokeswoman confirmed the cancellation and said there had been technical problems with Schröder's aircraft.
The chancellor was due to hold talks with Swiss President Ruth Dreifuss, Foreign Minister Joseph Deiss and Transport Minister Moritz Leuenberger.
Top of the agenda were the bilateral accords between Switzerland and the European Union. The agreements include land and rail transport, mutual acceptance of technical standards, agricultural agreements and the free movement of people.
The Swiss parliament is expected to ratify the accords next week. All 15 EU members also have to approved the agreements.
