Schnyder and Federer advance at French Open
Switzerland's Patty Schnyder has progressed to the quarter finals of the French Open in Paris after beating Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia, 6-2, 6-4.
This follows on from a victory by Swiss tennis number one Roger Federer over Croatian Mario Ancic in three sets to reach the fourth round on Saturday.
Schnyder will now meet Ana Ivanovic, ranked two in the world. It is the second time the Swiss has managed to reach the final eight.
Federer's win, in 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, is a boost to his hopes of finally winning the French Open title, the only Grand Slam tournament to so far elude him.
"I was very pleased the way I played because I always think on any surface Mario's very tough," the 26-year-old Swiss said.
Federer will now meet 55th-ranked Frenchman Julien Benneteau on Monday.
