At a news conference, the management said operating profit had soared by 77.9 per cent compared to the same period last year, to reach SFr28.1 million.

Straumann, the world number two in oral implantology, said it intended to increase its current staff of 478 by 50 between now and the end of the year. However, the company said it was difficult to find qualified staff.

On Friday it inaugurated a new production plant at Villeret in canton Berne.

In May, Straumann announced a cooperation agreement with the Vita company of Germany in the field of ceramic components for implant prosthetics.
