Dominique Gauthier, chef at Le Chat-Botté at Geneva's Hotel Beau Rivage, was awarded 18 out of 20 points, the publishers announced on Monday.

Gauthier won this year's title for his inventiveness and precision and for using "only the best products".

The 41-year-old has been at the Beau Rivage restaurant since 1996, becoming its head chef in 2001. He started cooking at the age of 14, later doing an apprenticeship and working under some of the country's top chefs.

The Gault Millau guide has reviewed 81 restaurants in Switzerland. None has gained the maximum 20 points, while seven have earned 19 points and two others have gained 18 points.
