The Swiss Post Office is launching a pilot project designed to expand its services for businesses. It plans to offer a mass printing facility to complement its existing distribution service.

Called Hybrid-post, the service will provide a printing and delivery service for receipts, bills and statements, with the whole process being carried out under one roof.

Businesses will be able to send their data direct to a Hybrid-post centre which will be set up at the Sihl post office in Zurich.

It will guarantee rapid processing and next day delivery for orders taken until 9 p.m. each day. The post office will be responsible for data protection and special safeguards will be put in place at the Hybrid-post centre.

The pilot project will be launched at the end of October with an in-house client, Postfinance.

If successful, the post office will offer the service to other clients such as banks and insurance companies from next year and plans to expand it over the whole country.

The cost of the project will run into millions of francs and will create new jobs to staff the Hybrid-post centre.
