The 53-year-old Romanian has been promoted from the assistant trainer's position following Victor Zvunka's decision to leave Lausanne after just six months at the helm, reportedly to take up a management job in France.

Nunweiler was considered to be one of the best Romanian players of the last century and was part of the side which reached the Mexico World Cup in 1970. He has lived in Switzerland since the early 1980s, managing Martigny, Etoile Carouge and Chênois in addition to his first three years (1984-7) coaching Lausanne.
