No aces up sleeve during Davis Cup loss

Spain have defeated Switzerland in tennis Davis Cup play, and now face France in the quarterfinals, scheduled for July.

The Spanish side beat Switzerland in the best of five, 3-1, with decisive wins in the final two matches played on Saturday and Sunday.

The host squad went 2-1 up on Saturday after Tommy Robredo and Marcel Granollers beat Stanislas Wawrinka and Yves Allegro in the doubles.

A day later, David Ferrer left no doubt as to Spain’s superiority by handing Wawrinka a three-straight defeat, 6-2, 6-4, 6-0.

Noticeable by their absences were Spain and Switzerland’s top players, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

Spain is attempting to win its third straight Davis Cup title and is now unbeaten in 19 home ties dating back to 1999.
