On valleys and people, 1908 (Hans-Jörg and Regula Ruch collection) Albert Steiner (1877-1965) was one of the most prominent Swiss photographers of the 20th century, yet he hardly received the attention he deserved. Inspired by painters such as Giovanni Segantini and Ferdinand Hodler, in the 1920s and 1930s Steiner took poetic images of landscapes in a unique light. The illustrated book "Albert Steiner – the photographic work" (Benteli Publishing Bern, 2005) recognises his considerable output.
