High-speed telecommunication services like e-mail, Internet, telephone, as well as video conferences apparently do not stop people from travelling distances, great and small, to have a one to one.

According to a survey conducted by the National Research Foundation, business people are travelling and will travel just as much despite the new technologies.

The study found that the new means of communications primarily make it easier for companies to do business with other firms over greater distances. But the foundation said that the end result has been an increase in the trade of goods.

The new technologies allow companies to work more efficiently, and even permits members of a team to work on the same projects even though their offices are far apart. However, the companies said nothing could replace face to face meetings for managers and for important customer contact. Only ten per cent said they made use of video conferencing.
