Canton Ticino's top ice hockey club, Lugano, have made it through to the semi-finals of the only European club competition, the Continental Cup, after breezing past the Ukrainian visitors, Sokol Kiev 3-0.

Following Friday's effortless win against Kiev, Lugano can now avenge last year's humiliation against their Ticinese arch-rival Ambri-Piotta in the semi-finals. Ambri are the defending champions of the Cup, having taken the title twice in a row.

However, Lugano are currently by far the stronger side in the league table.

The semi-finals are to be played between November 24 and 26.
