Swiss skater Stéphane Lambiel has won the men's competition at the 2007 Grand Prix final in Turin, Italy, after narrowly beating Japanese rival Daisuke Takahashi.

Twice world champion Lambiel was trailing Takahashi after the short programme on Friday, but fought back in the free skating programme on Saturday to take the overall title.

The 22-year-old Swiss, a silver medallist on the same rink at the 2006 Turin Olympics, triumphed with a score of 239.10 points.

Evan Lysacek, from the United States, was third.

"I don't do only a programme, I do a show. That makes the difference I think," Lambiel said afterwards. "When I'm on the ice I want to feel the crowd getting into the programme, getting into the motion. I think that, for me, makes a real figure skater."

Lambiel, who lives in French-speaking Lausanne, had been hoping for a comeback after his bronze at this year's world skating championships. He has also just won his eighth national title.
