Kratochvil ends two month losing streak
Swiss number two Michel Kratochvil has won his first singles match in more than two months during the first round of the ATP tournament in Shanghai.
Kratochvil (ATP 65) had no difficulty at all in seeing off the unranked Chinese wildcard Wang Yu in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) to complete his first win on the tour since reaching the quarter-finals of the Gstaad Swiss Open in July.
In the second round, Kratochvil could find himself lining up against fellow Swiss George Bastl (ATP 124), although Bastl must first overcome the Czech Republic's Petr Luxa (ATP 353) in the first round.
Bastl is also looking to bounce back from some disappointing performances. The Swiss number four recently went six tournaments without a win, before eventually reaching the second round at the US Open.
His Grand Slam adventure was ended by Russian world number six Yevgeny Kafelnikov who had earlier dumped Kratochvil out of the opening round.
