Kaeslin crowns historic weekend
Ariella Kaeslin has won gold in the vault at the 2009 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Milan.
The 21-year-old from Lucerne won Switzerland's first gold for a Swiss female gymnast 24 hours after coming third in the overall competition – the first time a Swiss woman had ever appeared on the podium.
Kaeslin, who was named sportswoman of the year for her fifth place at the Beijing Olympics, was favourite in the vault on Sunday and managed to hold off Julia Berger from Russia and Anna Kalaschnyk from Ukraine, who came second and third respectively.
"I executed two good, but not perfect, jumps," said the self-critical Swiss after her win.
