Neuchatel Xamax have had a nasty shock in the second round of the Intertoto Cup. They lost the first leg game against Germany's VfB Stuttgart 6-1.

There was no question of home advantage for the hosts, as Stuttgart scored three goals in the first 25 minutes. The Xamax fans were left wondering how their side will do when they face Lucerne in their first Swiss season match on July 15, let alone what kind of result to expect when the team heads for Germany to face Stuttgart in next Sunday's Intertoto second leg.

The game was also marred by pre-match violence, as a group of travelling German fans smashed up their own side's bus.
