Voters to decide on basic income for all

Passers-by get their hands on some of the eight million five-centime coins which covered Parliament Square on Friday. At the same time, organisers of an initiative for an unconditional basic income for everyone were handing in 126,000 signatures to the Federal Chancellery.

Swiss voters will now have their say on whether to give every legal resident in Switzerland CHF2,500 ($2,770) a month automatically (see related story).

The coins weigh a total of 15 tonnes and have a value of CHF400,000.
