Hingis through to Filderstadt semi-finals

Martina Hingis faces Spain's Arantxa Sanchez Vicario in Saturday's semi-final Keystone

Martina Hingis has comfortably beaten Belgium's Dominique van Roost in the quarter-finals of the Filderstadt tennis tournament.

The Swiss player's straight sets victory (6-2, 6-1) confirmed her supremacy over Van Roost. In six confrontations, Hingis has lost only once against the Belgian, ironically at the same Filderstadt tournament two years ago.

On that occasion Van Roost was able to take full advantage of a foot injury suffered by Hingis, to produce the only blemish on the world number one's otherwise spotless career at the German tournament.

Having won her very first singles tournament at Filderstadt, Hingis has now won the event three times in the last four years and seems well on course to defend the title.

On Saturday she is due to play Arantxa Sanchez in the semi-finals. The Spanish player is amongst Hingis's favourite opponents. She has only lost to her once in a total of 16 encounters.
