The Dutch coach, Piet Hamberg, has been named as Grasshopper Zurich's interim coach, following the shock resignation of Roy Hodgson on Sunday. The club's captain, Mats Gren, will also help coach the team for the remaining five games of the season.

Formerly a striker for Servette Geneva, Hamberg will need to rekindle the Grasshoppers' fighting spirit if the team are to turn around a mediocre season and reach their consolation target of a place in next season's UEFA Cup competition. The 46-year-old has been working at the Zurich club for just a few weeks having been brought in to concentrate on the club's developing players.

As he now turns his attention to the first team, Hamberg can at least rely on the support of the club's longest-serving player. Gren, a Swedish international, has been at the heart of the Grassshoppers defence for almost fifteen years.

While Gren will be called on to expand Hamberg's knowledge of Swiss football in an informal capacity, Walter Grüter is to remain as assistant manager.
