Customs agents in Chiasso said they questioned two men who appeared to be nervous as they drove their car toward a checkpoint between Italy and Switzerland during one night last week.

The agents ordered the men out of the car and quickly discovered plastic bags stuffed with €500 bills stashed behind the dashboard.

Where the money had come from was not immediately clear. Both men, Italians from Naples, were handed over to Ticino authorities for investigation.
