Grasshoppers have gone top of the football league after a resounding 4-1 victory away at Neuchâtel Xamax. The league's leading scorer Richard Nunez netted twice to take his season's tally to ten.

Neuchâtel started the game with the meanest defence in the league and finished it with that reputation in tatters. Prior to Sunday's game, the home side were unbeaten in their last four homes games during which they hadn't conceded a goal.

There were more goals over in Basel, where the home side hammered four past bottom club Lucerne in another one-sided contest. Basel striker Christian Gimenez bagged two goals in the rout.

Grasshoppers' win enabled them to leapfrog over Young Boys, who remained in top spot before Sunday's games despite leaking four goals in a humiliating defeat against St Gallen.

In Saturday's other matches, Zurich and Sion ground out a goalless draw, while Aarau trounced Lugano 3-1.

Grasshoppers now head the league with 20 points after 11 games of the season played. Young Boys lie second with 18 points, with Sion, St Gallen, FC Zurich and Lugano all on 17 points.
