Future politicians debate nature and privacy
Around 50 young people have been taking part in the summer Youth Session of parliament in the capital Bern.
Among the topics up for debate by 14-21 year olds were the media landscape, biodiversity and privacy issues.
Participants on Saturday agreed on two petitions: one calling for an individual’s right to privacy to be respected in video surveillance and another in support of the government’s strategy on protecting biodiversity.
The session is touted as a good learning opportunity for future politicians. The first meeting was organised in 1991 to coincide with the 700th anniversary of the founding of Switzerland.
It is organised by the Swiss National Youth Council. The next meeting - described as the most important of the year - is the Federal Youth Session, which takes place in November. Topics include family and transport policy.
