Football legend, Antenen, dies at 71
Charly Antenen, the only Swiss footballer to have represented his country in three World Cup finals, has died at the age of 71 following a long illness.
The former La Chaux-de-Fonds striker made a total of 56 appearances for the Swiss national side, including the World Cup finals of 1950, 1954 and 1962. Easily the most talented player of his generation, Antenen scored 22 international goals in that period and lived up to expectations as a natural successor to Freddy Bickel.
Apart from a brief period at Lausanne, Antenen spent his twenty-year career playing for La Chaux-de-Fonds, a time which saw the club record many of its greatest moments. Most notably the side won three league championships as well as six Swiss Cup finals.
