Film awards throws up surprise winner
The family drama “Giochi d’estate” (Summer Games) was named best movie at the Swiss Film Awards 2012 on Saturday night.
The film also scooped top Quartz prizes for the best screenplay and cinematography, despite two other movies being widely tipped by critics and the media to clean up at the awards that were staged in Lucerne.
One of the pre-ceremony favourites, a film called Der Verdingbub that portrays the scandal of forced adoptions in Switzerland, received awards for best actor (Max Hubacher) and supporting actor (Stefan Kurt).
Another hotly tipped film, Dällebach Kari, was recognised by the jury as having the best actress – Carla Juri.
Vol spécial or Special flight, that charts the forced deportation of asylum seekers, was voted as best documentary film. “Du & ich” (You & I) was awarded best short film while “Day is Done” was honoured with best film score.
The Quartz jury bestowed a lifetime achievement award on director and author Rolf Lyssy.
