The Swiss star and number two in the world will now meet third-seeded Novak Djokovic in the semifinals on Saturday.

Refusing to let a strong wind affect his game, the 16-time Grand Slam champion served his way to victory on Wednesday evening New York time, recording 18 aces against Soderling’s two.

"I've been practising my serve a whole lot, for my whole career. If I can't serve in the wind, I've got a problem, you know?" said Federer.

Federer’s record against Soderling is 13-1. The lone loss was in their previous match, in the French Open quarterfinals when Soderling ended Federer's streak of reaching the semifinals at a record 23 major tournaments.
