Team manager Daniel Monnin confirmed Federer’s participation at a media conference on Tuesday, saying he was due to arrive in Sydney on Wednesday.

Stanislas Wawrinka, who is carrying a leg injury, told reporters he was hopeful of being fit to play.

Stéphane Bohli and Marco Chiudinelli will make up the third and fourth members of the Swiss team that will face Bernard Tomic, Marinko Matosevic, Lleyton Hewitt and Chris Guccione of Australia.

Switzerland has lost to Australia in all four Davis Cup ties played between the two countries.
