Federer and Rosset through to second round in Stuttgart

The Swiss tennis stars, Roger Federer and Marc Rosset, are both through the next round of the ATP tournament in Stuttgart after winning their first round matches.

Federer defeated Jan-Michael Gambill of the United States after the American withdrew at the start of the second set with an injury.

Federer had to struggle to win the first, taking the set 7-6 after winning the tie-break. Gambill bowed out of the match after losing the first game of the second set.

Meanwhile, Marc Rosset beat Rainer Schüttler of Germany after three sets.

Rosset lost the first set 3-6, but won the next two 6-4 6-3.
