Valentin Stocker scored in the first half while Scott Chipperfield headed home the second.

Sunday’s match took place in front of a 31,100 capacity crowd in Bern’s Stade de Suisse.

The victory put Basel three points clear of Young Boys. They finished runners-up with a total of 77 points.

Basel are Switzerland’s most successful football team of recent years. Earlier this month they also took the Swiss Cup against Lausanne.

It’s Basel’s 13th championship title and the second double within three years.

FC Aarau were relegated from the Super League and are replaced by FC Thun next season. Bellinzona and Lugano are still to decide which team will play in the top flight.
