Farmers celebrate good year
Higher meat prices and a good harvest boosted the average Swiss farm income by almost SFr9,000 ($8,920), or 16.6 per cent, to SFr61,700 in 2007.
This puts the annual agricultural income back at 2000 and 2004 levels, according to provisional industry figures released on Tuesday.
The earned income per family worker also increased by a similar percentage, from SFr34,500 to SFr40,000.
Gross income rose on 2006, boosted by higher cattle market prices and by a good fodder and fruit harvest. The yield from potatoes, sugar beet and vegetables was also higher.
The average price of milk for the year however was slightly down, although it had begun to climb at the end of the year.
