Explosives suspect detained in custody
A man suspected of being behind the planting of an explosive device at National Day celebrations in 2007 has been detained in custody.
The Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona ordered the suspect, in prison since January, be released on bail but after an appeal by the Office of the Attorney General he has been kept in detention.
The office said it was opposed to the release and made an appeal through the Federal Court in Lausanne, requesting a suspension of the Federal Criminal Court's decision.
The man is suspected of having planted an explosive device on the historical Rütli meadow in August 2007 at National Day celebrations attended by then president, Micheline Calmy-Rey. No one was injured.
The Office of the Attorney General argues that the suspect was also behind explosions on September 4 in letterboxes belonging to a parliamentarian, a senator and the president of the Rütli committee.
He is also suspected of similar attempted attacks on last March and July in the canton of Zurich.
