Deiss remains in cabinet

The economics minister, Joseph Deiss, has secured a new term in government. He is likely to be the only member of the centre-right Christian Democratic Party represented in the seven-member cabinet.

Deiss, who joined the government nearly five years ago, won 138 votes.
The rightwing People's Party, who had promised to challenge Deiss's seat, succeeded in unseating his party colleague, Ruth Metzler, in an earlier round of voting.
