Cancellara wins San Remo classic
Swiss cyclist Fabian Cancellara has clinched the Milan–San Remo one-day classic race three seconds ahead of Italy's Filippo Pozzato.
Cancellara, two-time world trial champion, took off close to the finish for a lone victory on Saturday. It's the first Swiss victory in more than 20 years.
Belgian Philippe Gilbert finished the 298km race third.
"I dreamed about winning like this. I think it could be my year," said Cancellara who surprised sprinters with a late attack to win the first major classic of the cycling season.
The 27-year-old Cancellara wants to win the Tour of Flanders next month to complete his collection of spring classics.
He also said his goal is to take gold in the time trial competition at the Beijing Olympics in August.
