The seasonally unadjusted jobless rate slipped by 0.1 per cent to 2.8 per cent, according to a statement on Friday by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

The number of registered unemployed youths also dropped compared with figures in May.

In total 110,378 people were out of a job last month. The number of job openings fell slightly to 21,193 in the same period.

Officials said seasonal and economic factors as well as a reform of the unemployment insurance scheme had contributed to the result.

The latest figures come amid increasing concern over an adverse impact of the strong Swiss franc on Switzerland’s export-oriented economy.
