Bolt rises to expectations
Jamaican world record holder Usain Bolt matched the fastest time this year in the 100m when he made his comeback in Lausanne after injury.
At the Athletissima meeting on Thursday, Bolt equalled the 9.82 seconds run by compatriot Asafa Powell in Rome in June.
Problems with his left Achilles’ tendon had kept him out of competition for six weeks. He had announced that he would not compete in the 200m in the Diamond League event, and the 100m event was created especially for him.
Afterwards he said the tendon had been “slightly” painful during the race, but that he nevertheless hopes to run the 200m again before the end of the season.
In the women’s 1500 m, Gelete Burka of Ethiopia achieved the fastest time of the year so far, with 3 minutes, 59 seconds 28/100.
