Basel stays on top
FC Basel managed to keep their top league position by achieving a 2-2 draw in the match against the Young Boys in Bern.
In this exciting and sometimes hectic match, the two teams have proved that there was little to separate them when their game ended in a draw.
In the first half of the match the luck was on the Young Boys' side. In the ninth minute Bern's Django Malacarne already scored the first goal for the Boys with a header.
Basel seemed to be rather lethargic in the first 30 minutes of the match and played more on the defensive side. Israel national Avraham Tikva also sensed Basel's insecurity and netted the ball in the 20th minute.
However, just before the break Basel seemed to have finally woken up, when Christian Gimenez scored the first goal for his team.
Even though Basel was one man short after Hakan Yakin was sent off in the second half, Carlos Varela managed to equalise the score by netting the ball from a distance of 18 metres.
Elsewhere in the football league, Aarau won against Lausanne 2-0 and Sion hammered Lucerne 6-2.
